It was back at 2017 International Auto Show in Detroit that Japanese manufacturer Honda announced its ambitious plan to electrify more than half of its models over the next 12 years. Specifically, Honda plans to introduce a host of new electric or hybrid models in order to offer electrified engines in two-thirds of its vehicles by 2030.

This plan, dubbed the Honda Electrification Initiative, is responsible for the range of new green vehicles that have recently arrived in Honda's showrooms, including the Honda Clarity and the 2019 Honda Insight. The latter, offered only with a hybrid engine, is Honda's answer to the Toyota Prius.

Unlike the Prius, though, the Insight looks like a normal car and it behaves like a normal car on the road. Honda understands that buyers of electrified vehicles want to save fuel, not drive in a vehicle that looks like it's straight out of a sci-fi movie.

An economical engine and good versatility for the 2019 Honda Insight

The Honda Insight comes standard with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 103 horsepower and 99 lb-ft of torque that is combined with an electric motor for a total power output of 151 horsepower and 197 lb-ft of torque.

This engine offers all the power necessary to ensure good accelerations and dynamic driving, but it is also very fuel efficient with an average fuel consumption rating of only 4.6 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 4.8 liters per 100 kilometers on highway.

In addition to being fuel efficient, the Honda Insight is also a practical and versatile car for everyday use. Indeed, the cabin is spacious and full of storage space while the trunk, with its 427 liters, offers all the space needed for luggage, groceries or even your sports equipment.

Starting at $ 27,990, the Honda Insight 2019 is a relatively affordable option for those who want to minimize fuel consumption while enjoying the range and freedom provided by a regular car.
